    It definitely helps, especially at first, to be really pro-active on the forums about posting your work for others to see (DON'T spam the forums, though ;)). Also seek out art (especially newly-submitted art) that you like and leave constructive comments (or comments that are longer than 2 or 3 words) and also possibly added those works to your favorites if you really like them. You can also add people to your deviantWatch which will most definitely bring them to your page, but you'll really want to try to reserve this to those account you find truly watch-worthy.

    That's just the basics. There are tons of ways. ;)
